just leaving my footprint in the world

Reminder to me: "You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it."

This type of moisturiser means that no water is used.  This is a two man show starring oil and bees wax.

Ingredients

Carrier Oil

Think…

  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil (liquid)
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Grape Seed Oil
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Or a mixture of any of these

Bees Wax

Essential Oils

These need to be diluted with a carrier oil because they may irritate on their own due to their strength.  Select these on smell or their beneficial properties.

Do be diligent with essential oils! Do some reading about possible reactions and be aware of allergies when choosing.

Think…

  • Vanilla
  • Lavander
  • Peppermint
  • Manadrin
  • Mango
  • Endless Choices!

Ratio

1 part beeswax: 3 parts Carrier Oil

EG: 0.5 cup beeswax, 1.5 cups oil

Method

Combine *carrier* oil and beeswax into the jar you will keep the lotion in. Glass is best.

  1. Put this jar into a saucepan and fill the saucepan with water so that most of the jar is surrounded, but not so that water will get into the jar.   Put on the stove over medium/low heat.  You are melting the wax! Stir every so often until melted.
  2. Let it cool a little, then add in the Vitamin E and essential oil. Then while letting it cool to room temperature, stir every so often so that the ingedients do not separate.

A sugar scrub is a huge skin pick me up for such an easy mixture of easily accessible ingredients.

It will have you rubbing your body, surprised at how smooth and soft it feels.  You may notice your face appears brighter, the radiant new skin under those dead cells on show for all to see.

How easy, you ask?  Oil. Sugar.  That easy.

I have recently been very curious as to why I am paying so much for skin care, when I can’t pronounce most of the ingredients.  What is the value my skin is recieving for each of those hard earned dollars.  What am I paying for?

I have always been one for knowing about what is good for me, and looking for this in products…But now, I want to know how much of that good stuff is in my product.

Best way to solve this, let’s make our own products!

This way I can control what goes on my skin and hopefully, eleminate some of the nasty chemicals floating around in my bathroom drawer.

The goal outcome: A simple, beneficial, cheap concoction of goodness (that is not too geasy!!)

“It’s Okay to be Neither,” By Melissa Bollow Tempel

Alie arrived at our 1st-grade classroom wearing a sweatshirt with a hood. I asked her to take off her hood, and she refused. I thought she was just being difficult and ignored it. After breakfast we got in line for art, and I noticed that she still had not removed her hood. When we arrived at the art room, I said: “Allie, I’m not playing. It’s time for art. The rule is no hoods or hats in school.”

She looked up with tears in her eyes and I realized there was something wrong. Her classmates went into the art room and we moved to the art storage area so her classmates wouldn’t hear our conversation. I softened my tone and asked her if she’d like to tell me what was wrong.

“My ponytail,” she cried.

“Can I see?” I asked.

She nodded and pulled down her hood. Allie’s braids had come undone overnight and there hadn’t been time to redo them in the morning, so they had to be put back in a ponytail. It was high up on the back of her head like those of many girls in our class, but I could see that to Allie it just felt wrong. With Allie’s permission, I took the elastic out and re-braided her hair so it could hang down.

“How’s that?” I asked.

She smiled. “Good,” she said and skipped off to join her friends in art.

Our goal    Drink at least a litre of water per day.  Allowed 1 cup of coffee/ tea/ coke/ juice per day.

How   Get water nearby, in sight.  I just got a new summer colored 600mlwater bottle I take everywhere with me.

Why  It keeps the oxygen flowing, prevents you from feeling hungry when your thirsty, excellent for the skin, refreshing, prevents soft drink entering your body, I love lime water when I’m at dinner (and it’s great for saving money!)

P.s I hope this picture makes you crave an ice cold glass of water!

Kill ANTS

We aren’t talking about the insects here. ANTS, which stands for Automatic Negative Thoughts, trigger anxiety and make stress hormones circulate throughout our bodies. When an ANT crawls across your mind, write it down and forget about it. Review it later on to see how you can correct that kind of negative thinking.
